Cloud Computing is also known as cloud .It describes a way of managing, storing and processing a data online.
The cloud is basically a set of different types of software and hardware that collectively work in order to deliver various aspects of computing to end users as an online facility.
Cloud computing uses both the hardware and software in order to give up a service over a network(particularly the internet). With the help of cloud computing ,users can retrieve files and use any application from any device that inturn operates over the Internet.
.An example of Cloud Computing can be Google’s Gmail. The users using gmail can access applications and files hosted or operated by Google through the internet from any device.
Cloud Computing VS computing from PC’s hard drive:-
Despite the traditional way of computing wherein your data is kept and stored on your Personal Computer’s local Hard disk drive, the data in cloud is stored on many virtual and physical servers that are inturn hosted by a third party service provider. An example of cloud computing file storage is Google Drop box. Drop box files inturn can be accessed by any device through the internet.
Private and Public Clouds:-
A private cloud comprises of applications, files, storage and services that are protected and implemented within a commercial firewall. An example of Private Cloud Computing can be a Microsoft Exchange company because they can only be used by an authorized user via a secure VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection.
A public cloud is a standard cloud computing structure (framework) that consists of applications, files, services and storage which is available to the public through the internet. An example of the Public Cloud is Gmail.
Are your uploaded files safe on Cloud?
No storage package is 100% safe; cloud storage on the other hand provides a safer option and much more accessible storage for any company to store data rather than the old traditional computing methods.
The duplicate copies of data of the company can be kept and stored on various servers located in various geographical areas and then eventually protected by backup in case any disaster occurs.
Today many companies have Hybrid Cloud Computing model. This model gives companies the flexibility of keeping and storing sensitive data on a private cloud and thereby storing public data in public cloud. Both public and private infrastructures are unique entities and are kept separate from each other.
Summing up, Cloud Computing has many advantages but at the same time it has many drawbacks too. When a data is stored in a huge data centre across the world, the data inturn can become a main target for many hackers or even it could be misused by employees of cloud computing companies. In addition to this, the professionals involved in cloud computing must make sure that this cloud computing does not become a service where just only few users can use it. Also when cloud computing came into existence, it was only commercialized and its corresponding merits and demerits where not taken into consideration.
